Entry 12 · Effort

Effort is more attractive than perfect timing

I don’t need someone to have endless free time. I care much more about whether they make their intentions visible.

I used to give timing a lot of power. If someone was inconsistent, I assumed they were busy. If plans stayed vague, I told myself maybe the week was complicated. Sometimes that was true. Sometimes I was doing all the understanding for both of us.

What changed for me was realizing that effort is usually pretty easy to recognize. It can be a simple check-in, making a plan in advance, remembering something I mentioned, or being clear when life really is hectic.

I’m not interested in constant communication. I actually like people having their own lives. I just value the feeling that I’m not trying to guess whether I matter to them.

Consistency is not flashy, but it makes everything else feel safer. And once I noticed that, it became much harder to be impressed by words without follow-through.
