I like the quiet kinds of affection best
The gestures I remember are usually the ones no one would think to photograph.
I think affection is most convincing when it looks effortless. Holding my hand while we’re walking. Moving a glass away from the edge of the table for me. Sending me something because it reminded them of a conversation we had three days ago.
Big romantic moments can be lovely, but the smaller ones tell me more. They show attention. They show that someone is actually present.
I’ve also learned that affection feels best when it matches the relationship instead of trying to prove something about it. I don’t need a performance. I want warmth, ease, and the sense that care is happening in both directions.
Maybe that’s why the smallest gestures stick with me. They usually happen before anyone has time to make them impressive.
